How every puzzle is checked
- Exactly one solution. A second program, written apart from the one that makes the puzzles (Knuth’s Algorithm X), counts the solutions of each grid using its rows, columns and boxes, finds exactly one, and checks it against the answer printed at the back.
- Logic alone, no guessing. Every puzzle is then solved again with the two simplest steps only: a square where just one number can go, or a number with just one place left in a row, column or box. A puzzle those steps cannot finish never goes in the book.
- A gentle start. A third of the squares or more are filled in: 6 or more of the 16 in a 4 × 4 grid, 14 or more of the 36 in a 6 × 6, 38 or more of the 81 in a 9 × 9.
- Full solutions at the back, the starting numbers in bold, in the same order as the puzzles. Each page holds one grid size, so a mixed book never puts a 4 × 4 next to a 9 × 9.

What is a sudoku for kids?
A sudoku on a smaller grid. In a 4 × 4 grid every row, every column and every 2 × 2 box holds the numbers 1 to 4 once; in a 6 × 6 grid the boxes are 2 rows by 3 columns and the numbers run 1 to 6; the 9 × 9 grid is the classic one. The book’s how-to page explains the rules and the two steps that solve every puzzle, on one page.
How does a mixed book grow?
The first third of the puzzles are 4 × 4, the next third 6 × 6 and the last third 9 × 9 (any one or two left over go to the smaller grids), so a child who starts at the front meets the full grid only after the smaller ones. Pick easy, medium or hard instead to keep one size for the whole book.
How is it different from a sudoku book?
A sudoku book is all 9 × 9, easy to expert. Sudoku for kids starts with smaller grids, and every puzzle, the 9 × 9 ones too, is solved with the two simplest steps alone.
Will KDP accept the files?
Each book passes our check against KDP’s published paperback specs before you can download it: page size, page count, embedded fonts, margins and gutter for the page count, line weight, blank pages, cover size and spine. If KDP still rejects the files within 30 days, the book’s 500 credits go back to your key.
Can I make a series?
Yes. One book per grid size with your series name in the title, or the same level with new puzzles in each volume: every book without a seed gets new puzzles. Pick a cover color and layout for the series on the form, so its covers stand apart from other people’s.
What goes in the listing?
listing.txt in the ZIP has a title, subtitle, description, seven keyword ideas and the print options to pick on KDP. The preview folder has six images of real pages for your listing.
