Easy is an 8 × 8 grid with 8 words that run only across or down, medium a 10 × 10 grid with 10 words that may also run on a slant, hard a 12 × 12 grid with 12 words in all eight directions. How every puzzle is checked
- Every word exactly once. A second program, written apart from the one that fills the grid, searches the finished grid again in all eight directions and finds each listed word once, in a direction its level allows, where the printed answer shows it.
- No unwanted words in the letters. The letters around the words are random, so they could spell something by chance. The same program reads every line of the grid, forwards and backwards, and refuses any grid where a word from two public lists of bad words, or from our own list of words unfit for a children’s book, can be read outside a listed word.
- Words children know. 45 themes of plain, everyday words: pets, farm animals, fruits, colors, shapes, toys, school, the weather, space, things that go and more. Every word of four letters or more is on a list of common English words, and no word hides inside another word of its puzzle.
- Full solutions at the back, each word shaded in its grid, in the same order as the puzzles.

Questions
How is it different from a word search book?
A word search book fills grids of 13 × 13 to 20 × 20 letters with 15 to 24 words from themes for grown-ups. Word search for kids uses grids of 8 × 8 to 12 × 12 with 8 to 12 short words on themes for children, and its letters are bigger because the grid is smaller.
Which level should a book use?
The level sets the grid, the number of words and the directions, so pick it by what your readers can do: easy keeps every word reading left to right or top to bottom, medium adds slanted words, hard adds words that read backwards. A series can have one book per level.
Can I pick the themes?
Not yet: the book takes the 45 themes in an order set by its seed. The book’s seed makes the same order again, and a new book gets a new order.
Will KDP accept the files?
Each book passes our check against KDP’s published paperback specs before you can download it: page size, page count, embedded fonts, margins and gutter for the page count, line weight, blank pages, cover size and spine. If KDP still rejects the files within 30 days, the book’s 500 credits go back to your key.
What goes in the listing?
listing.txt in the ZIP has a title, subtitle, description, seven keyword ideas and the print options to pick on KDP. The preview folder has six images of real pages for your listing.
