Need the whole book, not only the cover size?

Our book maker does not make books at 8.25 × 6 in. It makes sudoku, word search and maze books at 6 × 9, 7 × 10, 8 × 10, 8.5 × 11 in, and A4 (8.27 × 11.69 in), each with the interior PDF, a wrap cover sized to its page count and a signed check report. From $3.30 a book.

Questions

How wide is the spine of an 8.25 × 6 in book?

Pages × 0.002252 in on white paper, × 0.0025 in on cream or × 0.00235 in on groundwood. The trim size does not change it: 120 white pages make a 0.2702 in spine, 200 white pages 0.4504 in.

How big should the cover image be?

For 120 pages on white paper, 5106 × 1875 pixels at 300 dpi (17.020 × 6.250 in). Every 10 pages add 6.76 pixels of width on white paper, 7.5 on cream and 7.05 on groundwood.

Can I put the title on the spine?

Only from 80 pages: KDP prints spine text only on books of more than 79 pages and rejects covers with spine text below that. Keep spine text at least 0.0625 in from both folds, because the fold can move a little in printing.

Where does the barcode go?

Unless your cover file has its own barcode, KDP places one in a white box 2 × 1.2 in at the bottom right of the back cover, next to the spine. Keep any text, picture or object out of that box: KDP rejects covers with text or images where the barcode goes. Our PDF guide keeps a slightly larger area clear, 2.2 × 1.4 in, so the barcode never lands on artwork.

What if my page count is odd?

KDP prints on both sides of each sheet and rounds the page count up to an even number, so size the cover for the next even number.

Other trim sizes

KDP’s only standard landscape trim size; every other size is listed below.

Numbers from KDP’s paperback help pages (trim sizes, page limits, margins and bleed, cover size, spine width and spine text, the groundwood spine and barcodes), read on 21 and 22 October 2026 (ruleset kdp-paperback-2026-10-21). KDP changes its specs now and then; its own pages win.
